A Study of the Self-concept Traits of Nursing Students


Abstract
The present study was aimed at identifying educational guide method about sound and desirable self-concept of nursing students.
Procedures
1. Subject were randomly made up 380 nursing students from the Nursing Junior College.
2. Data was collected from March 20, 1983 to April 20, 1983.
3. The tool for this study is the test of standardized self-concept.
4. The analysis was done by finding the means, standard deviations, coefficient of correlations, and analysis of variance. The statistical analysis was done by the S.P.S.S computer method.
Major Findings
1. The inquired nursing students in this study showed positive self concept where family self score was the highest where as the social self score was lowest.
2. In the total positive self score, urban nursing students had higher scores than those in rural nursing students. (p<.01)
3. In the self identity score, urban nursing students had higher scores than those in rural nursing students. (p<. 01)
4. In the self satisfaction score, urban nursing students had higher scores than these in rural nursing students. (p<. 01)
5. In the self behavior score, urban nursing students had higher scores than those in rural nursing students. (p<.01)
6. In the physical self score, urban nursing students had higher score than those in rural nursing students. (p<. 01)
7. In the moral ethical self score, difference of mean score between junior and sophomore, urbanity and rurality were not both statistically significant. (p>.05)
8. In the personal self score, urban nursing students had higher scores than those in rural nursing students. (p<. 01)
9. In the family self score, urban nursing students had higher scores than those in rural nursing students. (p<.1)
10. In the social self score the differences of mean score between junior and sophomore. Urbanity and rurality were not both statistically significant. (p<.05)
